Resurrection (A Matter of Conscience)

At Théâtre National de Nice "La Cuisine", the play "Resurrection" explores the journey of a privileged young man who becomes a juror in the trial of a woman accused of murder. This woman, once his childhood love and servant, suffered betrayal and abandonment after becoming pregnant due to his actions, leading her into a life of prostitution. Struggling with guilt, he seeks to prove her innocence, only to face her refusal of help, forcing him to confront the consequences of his past. Adapted by Leïla Slimani and directed by Simon Delétang, this contemporary interpretation of Tolstoy's lesser-known work probes themes of redemption, forgiveness, and class conflict within modern society. The production invites reflection on moral responsibility and social inequality in the vibrant cultural scene of Nice.
