November on the French Riviera: events and trip ideas

15 October 2026
November on the French Riviera is no longer an extension of the summer season; it is a different kind of trip. The sea remains part of the scenery, but beach time is no longer the main reason to visit. Instead, the region offers concerts, exhibitions, theatre, food, sport, smaller towns and day trips inland. Before planning your itinerary, check the French Riviera events calendar.
For independent travellers, November makes it easy to build a route around specific events. Spend the morning in Nice, visit Antibes or Saint-Paul-de-Vence in the afternoon, and return for a concert in the evening. Business events in Cannes and Monaco can also make it easy to add sightseeing to a work trip. On sunny days, coastal walks and old-town streets are appealing; on rainy days, museums, exhibitions, restaurants, wineries, concerts and theatres provide alternatives.

November weather on the French Riviera

November is mild by northern European standards. In Nice, average daytime highs slip from about 18°C at the start of the month to about 14°C by the end, with nights between roughly 7°C and 11°C. It is also one of the wetter months: around 100 mm of rain falls on eight to ten days, usually in short, heavy showers rather than days of drizzle. The sea stays at about 17–18°C, so a quick swim is possible on a sunny afternoon. Pack layers, a light waterproof jacket and comfortable shoes for cobbled old towns. Sunset is around 5 pm, so plan coastal walks and hilltop villages for the morning and keep museums, concerts and dinners for later in the day.

What to do in Nice in November

Nice remains one of the most versatile bases for a short Riviera break. Major dates include the Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes Marathon on 8 November and OVNi, a biennial dedicated to moving-image art, scheduled from 13 to 29 November 2026. The November programme in Nice also lists Vanessa Paradis on 13 November and Legendary Rock Voices on 18 November, alongside theatre, classical music and dance. On 27 November, the programme includes Mari / Schumann / Gershwin / Ravel; 28 November brings Eric Serra Live and Génération Star Ac’. Combine an event with Old Nice, Cours Saleya market and a walk along the seafront.

Cannes in November: culture and business events

Cannes is quieter after summer, but the Palais des Festivals continues to host international events. MAPIC is scheduled for 3–4 November and The Luxe Convergence for 3–5 November. For leisure travellers, the second half of the month is especially interesting: the Cannes – Côte d’Azur Dance Festival runs from 21 November to 6 December, Mov’in Cannes is listed for 26 November, and 28 November includes Before Night Falls / The Firebird and a performance by Philia Trio. Between events, walk along the Croisette, explore Le Suquet and Marché Forville, or visit the Lérins Islands if the weather allows. For more dates, see what’s on in Cannes.
Earlier in the month, the Palais des Festivals hosts French rock poet Hubert-Félix Thiéfaine on 6 November. For a more intimate evening, pianist Caroline Sageman gives a Chopin recital at the Théâtre Alexandre III on 7 November, and on 15 November the Théâtre Debussy presents Beethoven’s Triple Concerto.

Monaco and Antibes: music, sport and walks

Monaco’s key date is National Day on 19 November. Another reason to visit is the Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival, scheduled for 20–28 November 2026 at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo. The programme lists Gregory Porter, Melody Gardot, The Brand New Heavies, Thomas Dutronc and Soweto Gospel Choir. During the day, explore Monaco-Ville and the Oceanographic Museum, or check what’s on in Monaco. In Antibes, stroll through the old town, harbour and ramparts, visit the Musée Picasso or walk the Sentier du Littoral around Cap d’Antibes. Antibes Sharks home games are listed for 17 November against Le Havre and 20 November against Évreux; check events in Antibes before travelling.
Monaco’s calendar goes beyond jazz: the Grand Gala of the Monte-Carlo Film Festival takes place at the Grimaldi Forum on 14 November, and the Théâtre Princesse Grace stages La Cathédrale engloutie on 27 November. In Antibes, the Casino Terrazur hosts the French comedy classic Le Dîner de cons on 6 November — a good choice if you understand French.

Menton, Èze and quieter day trips

Close to the Italian border, Menton is at its most pleasant out of season: wander through the pastel old town, visit the Jean Cocteau Museum and finish on the seafront. Its November programme includes Noëlle Perna’s Mado fait son cabaret at the Palais de l’Europe on 21 November and the stage comedy Le Père Noël est une ordure at the Casino Barrière on 27 November; more dates are in the Menton events listing. On the way, stop in Èze, a hilltop village linked to the sea by a steep footpath, or in Villefranche-sur-Mer, whose bay is calm and uncrowded at this time of year. Further west, Saint-Tropez is very quiet in November, but the Chapelle de la Miséricorde hosts Granados’s Goyescas for piano on 4 November. If you would rather not drive, guided tours from Nice cover several villages in a single day.

Seasonal flavours and the start of Christmas

November suits slower meals. Look for warming Niçoise dishes such as daube, a slow-cooked beef stew, socca from the old-town stalls and pissaladière, the local onion tart. On Thursday 19 November, bars and wine shops across France pour the year’s Beaujolais Nouveau. At the end of the month the mood turns festive: Nice’s Village de Noël opens in the Jardin Albert Ier and on Place Masséna on 27 November and runs until 3 January 2027, with dozens of chalets selling gifts, local food and mulled wine.

Wine tours and planning your itinerary

Bellet, the small recognised wine appellation near Nice, is a convenient option for discovering local grape varieties and winemaking traditions. For a longer outing, consider the wine regions of Provence. Compare tour duration, group size, departure point and what the tasting includes. Browse wine tours from Nice or all wine tours on the French Riviera. Keep your itinerary flexible: Nice works well as a base for Antibes, Cannes and Monaco, while one concert or festival can anchor an evening. Recheck event schedules and venue opening hours before your visit.

Practical tips for a November trip

Prices fall after the summer: hotels in Nice, Cannes and Antibes are usually cheaper than in high season, and restaurant tables are easier to find — except around big events such as the Monaco jazz festival or trade fairs in Cannes, when it pays to book early. Some beach clubs and seasonal restaurants close for the winter, and boats to the islands run on a reduced timetable. Getting around without a car is easy: regional TER trains run along the coast, taking about 20 minutes from Nice to Monaco, 30–40 minutes to Cannes and about 35 minutes to Menton. From Nice Côte d’Azur Airport, tram line 2 runs to the city centre. Many museums close one day a week, often Monday or Tuesday, so check opening days before you go.
